About Us

(Yehuda Rotblum wearing the yellow vest)

I am a researcher and tour guide based in the Negev Desert. For more than two decades, I have walked its landscapes, exploring and documenting the region’s ancient rock art and gradually uncovering its symbolic, astronomical, and mythological meaning.

Countless hours spent traversing the desert have shaped my understanding of the life that once unfolded here, as echoed in the thousands of rock engravings scattered across the Negev. My first book, Heavenly Art, published fifteen years ago, marked my initial attempt to unravel the mystery of rock art. Five years later, I wrote the book Rock Art in Israel, a more mature and carefully structured work that clarified and expanded these ideas, weaving them into a coherent narrative that also validated my earlier interpretations.

The ideas presented here are grounded entirely in the rock-art categories that emerged from my own research and pointed toward the underlying principles behind the mysterious rock art scenes. Many of the conclusions that emerged in the deciphering process came as a surprise, often challenging my intuition and overturning assumptions I once held with confidence. This ongoing process has been both humbling and deeply rewarding, reshaping the way I think about the ancient world.

Along the way, I have learned that understanding the past is rarely straightforward. In many ways, it is more elusive—and more demanding—than imagining the future.
